July 4th – LIVE from The Farmer’s Market

Happy July 4th!
I’ll be doing the show LIVE from the Plaza in Old Town followed by my annual grilling demo.  Come out and be a part of the FUN in Old Town.

This year it’s all about the BIG Green Egg.  I’ll be showing you how to prep a beef brisket from Dodge City Beef (available on the Plaza), how to season Cuban Style and prepare to cook low & slow on the BGE.

Then will be cooking some fresh garden vegatables from the market to go with free samples of Good Life Guy’s famous Cuban style beef brisket.  It’s not BBQ, it’s better 🙂

June 27 – Easy Chinese Stir Fries & Barefoot Riesling

We begin with a LIVE Farmer’s Market update from the Plaza in Old Town with Pat Randleas.

easy chineseThen we’ll be talking to Helen Chen, the founder of Helen’s Asian Kitchen, a widely distributed Asian cookware line, and the author of Helen Chen’s Chinese Home Cooking and Peking cuisine.  Her mother, Joyce Chen, was a pioneering Chinese restauranteur and entrepreneur.  Helen served as the CEO of her mother’s company before launching her own business.  Helen’s latest book is the focus today…Easy Chinese Stir-Fries!

Inside, you’ll find many familiar dishes—Kung Pao Chicken, Moo Shi Pork, and Sweet and Sour Shrimp, to name just a few—and find out just how easy it is to prepare them at home. You’ll also discover lots of less familiar dishes that are equally delicious, such as Chicken with Cashew Nuts, Black Pepper Beef with Green Beans, and Shanghainese Shrimp with Peas. In addition, you’ll find nearly twenty healthy tofu and vegetable dishes, ranging from Grandmother’s Spicy Bean Curd to Garlicky Green Beans.

To help you get started, Helen provides a thorough overview of Chinese cooking techniques, equipment, and ingredients. You’ll discover why cornstarch is important, how much oil to use in a wok, and what kinds of soy sauce you should choose. With Helen’s clear instructions and straightforward recipes, you’ll soon be cooking and enjoying a wide variety of delectable stir-fries.

Throughout the book, more than thirty gorgeous color photographs show just how deliciously appealing these stir-fries can be. Complete with Helen’s fascinating notes on each dish, this handsome cookbook is just what you need to explore the simple pleasures of home-style Chinese cooking.

The 2005 Deaver is a balance of beauty, power and grace.  The deep eggplant hue suggest the richness and concentration in your glass.  Bark berry flavors are touched with pretty floral aromas and kissed with sweet caramel oak.  Long and luschious on the finish, this is a great wine!  Now where’s the BEEF?

“Wine of the Week” from from Napa producer John Buehler; 2007 Napa Zinfandel  🙂

buehler-zin-smallThe grapes we choose for our 2006 Buehler Vineyards Napa Valley Zinfandel are a mix of those off our estate vineyards and grapes from other select Napa Valley high quality, low-yielding vineyards. Dry-farmed for over a decade, our 4.5 acre estate block consists of mature thirty-six year old vines which typically give us around 3.0 tons/acre of beautiful hillside zinfandel fruit. Interspersed among the head-trained vines are a handful of Petite Sirah vines representing perhaps 5% of the total vines in this block. A traditional field companion to Zinfandel in pre-prohibition California vineyards, Petite Sirah contributes pepper, color, and tannin structure to the wine.

“90 POINTS” – WINE SPECTATOR

Good Life Guy says…buy by the case before it’s gone for ever, this is a great wine.

The smooth, ripe tannins give a voluptuous texture to the mixed berry and chocolate flavors of the wine. A hint of white pepper adds further complexity to the lively and seamless finish.  Pick up a bottle at Jacob Liquor Exchange on the Good Life Guy Wine of the Week rack.
