Sep 19 – This Week’s Show

1st up this week is Crystal McDonald  co-owner with her brother Cody Lathrop of Xclusive Events here in Wichita.  If you have been to any major event in Wichita since 2007 you’ve probably have seen one of their bright green “Booze Trucks.”  Through hard work and providing exceptional bar service to many local charity events the business has grown in to Xclusive Event Services.  More trucks have been added including a local craft beer truck, a great addition to any outdoor event.  Continued growth included the addition of party planning, event planning and execution, catering and bartending services for in-home entertaining or gatherings of hundreds.  www.xclusiveeventservices.com

For the past 10 years or so, Xclusive has been providing contract beverage service for Wichita Boat House events.  Several weeks ago the brother sister team and their talented staff have taken over management of The Wichita Boat House.  The renewed Boat House will be available for private and corporate events, weddings and parties as it has been, but there are plans for many public events.  The new energy and dedication offered by Xclusive Event staff will be a welcome addition on the river.

Later in the program Teri Mott, Director of Marketing and Communications for Wichita Festivals joins us to talk about one of Wichita’s favorite events…Autumn & Art 2020.  www.autumnandart.com

As you can imagine, COVID has  forced the event in to the virtual world but will still be a great showcase for local artists and their works.
It remains a 3-day event running September 18,19 and 20.  While you may have missed out on the always popular opening night Patron Party, there is still lots of virtual fun to be had.  You can still purchase art and have some great entertainment including my virtual tasting of 4 wines Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. Central.

Sep 12 – The Primal Gourmet

My guest this week is Ronny Joseph Lvovski author of The Primal gourmet Cookbook.  Over 100 gluten-free, grain-free, and dairy-free recipes based on the popular Primal Gourmet blog, fully endorsed by Whole30.   www.cookprimalgourmet.com

Ronny Joseph Lvovski struggled with a lifetime of obesity, failed diets, and low self-esteem before discovering the Paleo diet. Once he eliminated grains and dairy from his diet, his allergies, asthma, upset stomachs, headaches, back pain, lethargy, excess weight, and cravings disappeared. After losing 40 pounds, Ronny set out to create gourmet-quality meals that followed Paleo guidelines and left him feeling satisfied. He shared those recipes on his Primal Gourmet blog, and became one of the most popular contributors to the @whole30recipes Instagram account. The Primal Gourmet Cookbook, Ronny’s first cookbook, is fully endorsed by Whole30 and includes a foreword by Whole30 co-creator Melissa Urban. The cookbook includes more than 120 recipes, with blog fan-favorites plus all-new dishes such as Mojo Loco Chicken Wings, Short Rib Ragu, Jerk Ribs, and Moroccan Lamb Stew, proving healthy diets really can be delicious.

Ronny Joseph Lvovski is the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants and currently lives in Toronto with his wife, Catalina, and daughter, Sofia. In 2013, after a lifetime of struggling with obesity, body image, and failed diets, he began a health journey that rehabilitated his relationship with food and inspired his popular blog, Primal Gourmet, where he shares easy and delicious paleo and Whole30 recipes. Ronny is a self-taught cook, photographer, and food stylist, and in 2018, he earned a PhD in Art History and Visual Culture from York University, with a focus in Medieval Spanish Architecture. He works as a part-time professor of art history and is an award-winning scholar.  Ronny is on FaceBook, Twitter and Instagram

Sep 5 – LODI Wine

This week it’s all about LODI American Viticultural Area.  My guest is Stuart Spencer, Director of the Lodi Grape Commission.  We’ll tell you all about this magnificent part of California wine country, you’ll want to visit soon!  www.visitlodi.com

Located between the San Francisco Bay and the Sierra Nevada Mountains lies Lodi Wine Country, a region quickly emerging as one of California’s most exciting wine destinations. Over the past decade 4th- and 5th-generation winegrowers dedicated to the soils and vines have brought creative winemaking and cutting-edge technology to the region, catapulting Lodi into the spotlight.  www.lodiwine.com

Stuart was appointed Executive Director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission in 2018. Prior to that, he worked as the Commission’s Program Manager since 1999. Over the years, Stuart has been involved in many of the Commission’s marketing, education, and research activities which have focused on raising public awareness about Lodi grapes and wines.

Stuart is actively involved in the Commission’s consumer and trade marketing events including ZinFest and Lodi Wine & Chocolate. He has developed many of the Commission’s promotional materials including websites, ad campaigns, and public relations, including the Lodi Wine marketing campaign. As Stuart is also the proprietor of St. Amant Winery, he is the Commission’s onsite industry expert and is a regular spokesperson on all things Lodi.

Later in the second half I’ll be talking to Tom Lutz inventor of the latest and greatest wine preservation system repour!

Tom Lutz calls the seven-month period since he introduced his Repour Wine Saver a “soft launch.” But during that time, the Cedar Rapids inventor and entrepreneur has sold nearly 200,000 units worldwide, attracted widespread industry acclaim and landed prime retail shelf space at more than 2,000 stores, including Brookstone locations from coast to coast.

It seems the world has been thirsting for his product, which promises to keep wine fresh weeks – and up to months – after a bottle is opened. And now that Mr. Lutz is finally rolling out his marketing strategy in earnest, his wine stopper is poised to make an even bigger splash.

Might be the perfect way to save the wines from tonight’s virtual tasting?

Aug 29 – Costoro Cellars

My first guest this week is Costoro Cellars proprietor Niels Udsen.  You learn all about this award winning, Organic and SIP certified sustainable winery in Paso Robles.  I’ll also be tasting four of the Estate wines during my Saturday evening Face Book Live Virtual Tasting at 6:00 p.m.

The husband and wife team of Niels and Bimmer Udsen established Castoro Cellars in 1983
with the goal of producing world-class wines from Paso Robles-appellation grapes. Niels,
born and raised in Ventura, California, got started in the Paso Robles wine business while
studying Agribusiness at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. Eventually,
His love of production and wines led him and Bimmer to establish their own winery in the area.

Castoro Cellars has grown to what it is today by a series of events that Niels and Bimmer Udsen
call the ‘backwards approach.’ The Udsen’s first made and sold the wine, then purchased their
own equipment, the winery, the tasting room, and then began purchasing and planting vineyards.
Castoro’s tasting room is in Templeton off scenic Highway 46 West and the winemaking facility
is located on the East Side of Paso Robles in San Miguel. Both facilities opened in 1990.

With the help of Niels’ mentor and Castoro Cellar’s winemaker,
Tom Myers, the Udsen’s have gone from making a few barrels
of wine for family and friends in a rented corner of someone
else’s winery to developing a custom-crush operation and a
30 – 40k case enterprise for Castoro Cellars.

Castoro Cellars currently has over 1,400 acres of Estate vineyards,
which are certified organic by CCOF
and all the vineyards are SIP Certified.  www.castorocellars.com

Aug 22 – Joel Gott Wine & Betta with Butta

My 1st guest this week is Winemaker Extraordinaire Joel Gott.  The family history in California Wine Country is deep, and Joel continues the epic journey in all aspects of producing premium wine that’s affordable and award winning.   And…he is also involved in the gourmet fast food biz with Gott’s Roadside, the original location is the famous Taylor’s Refresher roadside hamburger stand in Napa.

Then Chris Tucker, baker extraordinaire joins us!  We’ll be talking about baking and family kitchen fun during COVID as well as Chris’ Los Angeles baking exploits and how you can get his “At home Baking Kits.”  www.bettawithbutta.com

TheA Southern baker at heart, with a French twist, and a true believer that a little bit of butter makes everything better, Chris grew up baking with his grandmother. Some of his fondest memories growing up were spending time in the kitchen with her, creating, and of course, tasting delicious recipes. Baking had a beautiful way of spreading joy around the table during the holidays, and when she passed away while he was younger, his family looked to him to continue the tradition. Always a hobby growing up and into adulthood, Chris worked as a hair stylist for nearly a decade before he reclaimed his passion and love for baking, and soon found himself starring on ABC’s most popular cooking show “The Great American Baking Show.”

Carefully crafted with thought and passion, Chris’s menu of perfectly balanced buttercreams slathered atop delicate sponge, crisp biscuits with creamy curd and countless flaky pastries change with the seasons while a few staples having year-round availability. He uses the best quality ingredients, including pantry staples such as Callebaut chocolate, farmers market produce and only the freshest dairy available. He spends much of his time creating and testing recipes for his clients.

When Chris isn’t testing, tasting and tweaking his recipes, he can be found inspiring other bakers with his curated online content through his digital platforms and on-camera appearances. In addition to ABC’s “The Great American Baking Show” he has appeared on Inside Edition, California Live, ABC’s “On The Red Carpet,” and was recently featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine for Pride Month.

As CEO of Betta With Butta, Chris believes he can “bake the world a betta place, one bite at a time.” With charity at his core, Chris is constantly looking for ways to partner with local and national organizations to bring a smile and funds to people, communities and causes in need.  Check out some of the amazing baked goods on Instagram
