July 10 – Wholesome Junkfood & Zaca Mesa Syrah
My first guest is Dr. Laura Trice with her new book; The Wholesome Junk Food Cookbook
The Wholesome Junk Food Cookbook is a cookbook devoted to wholesome eating. It satisfies our desires for snacks while keeping us healthy. With more than 100 snack recipes from cookies and cakes to ice cream and smoothies, Dr. Laura Trice is on a mission to make healthy eating more fun with treats such as lemon pound cake, Boston cream pie, and chocolate-banana milkshake. While in medical school, Laura saw how people suffered due to illnesses that could have been prevented with better nutrition. Like her patients she realized that she only ate the food that tasted great to her.In 1997, while working on the set of 7th Heaven, Dr. Laura would bring snacks to the set from time to time and was inspired to make her snacks available on a large scale when she noticed that some of the truck drivers on the set were actually eating her cookies for breakfast instead of donuts! This passion for healthy and great tasting food led to Laura’s Wholesome Junk Food, est. 2001. Her wholesome “junk foods” are distributed nationally in Whole Foods and Harris Teeters as well as numerous health food stores. An introduction explaining the importance of eating healthy and promoting a healthy lifestyle and two full-color photographic inserts complement the text. Each chapter includes a sidebar with nutritional and cooking tips.

July 3 – Burgers & Beer!
Hmmmm BURGERS!
First up is Chef Jeff Starr, Executive Chef at Trinchero Family Estates. Jeff is not only a judge at the Sutter Home Build a Better Burger contest, but he worked with author James McNair on the recently released Burger Parties – featuring winning recipes from this annual contest.
Each year, thousands of cooks from coast to coast compete in Sutter Home Winery’s Build a Better Burger® Recipe Contest. Ten of these creative home chefs are flown to Napa Valley each September to participate in the BBB Cook-Off, frequently shown on Food Network Challenge. Burger Parties marks the event’s 20th anniversary with contest-winning burgers loaded with flavor-enhancing extras and party-ready menus bound to be a hit at any backyard bash.
Don’t have time to “build a better burger”…Then let’s talk about Wichita’s own Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers with the namesake and spokesperson for Freddy’s, the one and only Freddy Simon. www.freddysfrozencustard.com
Wichita, Kansas was already a historical landmark in the hamburger’s march to prominence, and home to WWII veteran Freddy Simon. From his home kitchen, Freddy used to treat family and friends to his personal recipe of an American classic he called “the steakburger.” This savory creation became far more than a Simon household sandwich. Nearly 50 years passed before fond childhood memories of this dinnertime delicacy inspired Freddy’s sons to make the steakburger the foundation of their restaurant named after dear ol’ dad. It was the most appropriate meal they deemed worthy enough to precede their other big attraction-frozen custard.
…and what goes best with a great burger?
The Good Life Guy Wine Beer of the Week: Stella Artois
Stella Artois is a brand of supreme worth and quality. It is the number 1 Belgian beer in the world and is distributed in over 80 countries world-wide, and in Wichita by House of Schwan.

Good Life Guy Wine of The Week: Gloria Ferrer NV “Va de Vi”
Va de Vi is the stylish new méthode champenoise sparkling wine that celebrates our Spanish heritage. This ultra-premium cuvée adds new dimension to our house style. Elegant and refreshing, dry but not too dry, Va de Vi is a classic blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with just a trace of Muscat. Va de Vi captures the exuberant aromas and luscious flavors of perfectly ripened fruit and reveals them throughout a long, soft finish.
Tasting Notes: The wine offers abundant aromas of ripe apple, Asian pear and Bing cherries amid enticing yeasty tones. On the palate, rich flavors of ripe peach, Meyer lemon, fresh berries and vanilla join with creamy textures in a lasting finish.

The Good Life Guy Wine of the Week: 2008 The Show Malbec
The Thieves were hungry to search beyond California for their next varietal, and so headed down to another land of cowboys to Mendoza, Argentina and found the perfect complement to their California Cabernet Sauvignon. The Show Malbec is delicious and yet more distinct than other Argentinian Malbecs on the market, and the Thieves think this package will be even more appealing to the Malbec consumer. Enjoy The Show!
