My guest this week is Mia Mårtensson , who has a talent for story telling and demystifying even the most arcane corners of global wine culture, making her the perfect guest!
Mia is a true world traveler, with years spent sailing as Head Sommelier for The World | Residences at Sea, exploring vineyards and curating beverage experiences across continents. Her expertise isn’t just academic; she’s a storyteller through and through, weaving together adventures from Gotland to South Africa to the Caribbean. As a recent recipient of Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence for her work at Seven Stars Spa & Resort, she backs every tale with genuine insight.
Resort Sommelier, Seven Stars Resort & Spa, Grace Bay, Turks & Caicos – Born and raised in Sweden on the island of Gotland, Mia Mårtensson’s career in the restaurant industry began at the age of 14 as the pot-washer at a small, local hotel. That early experience put Mia on the path to becoming a chef. Despite her restaurant school training, however, she opted for roles in the front of the house vs. the kitchen, where she could enjoy the social aspect of engaging and connecting with guests.
