Just got back from a week in Florida and had a great time.  During this show I’ll be sharing some of that fun with you by talking to some of my friends that make it happen.

1st up is Dan Termini, Head Distiller at Wicked Dolphin.  Started in 2012, Wicked Dolphin Distillery is located in Cape Coral, just miles from the fertile sugarcane fields of Florida. Wicked Dolphin Rum was born out of an idea for a true Florida Rum. Using 100% Florida Sugar and local ingredients our rum is handcrafted in small batches using an American copper pot still, the largest in South Florida. Our award winning rum is then aged in American White Oak once used bourbon barrels that held premium aged Kentucky Bourbon for a minimum of 3, and up to, 14 years.

The family run distillery produces award winning rums available throughout Florida and the Southeastern United States. The plan from the outset was to make rum to be proud of, using the best ingredients available. Florida’s rich and fertile Sugarcane fields are 35 minutes from the distillery, and over half of the sugarcane produced in the United States is produced right here in Florida. Using only local, natural ingredients, Wicked Dolphin is “Florida’s Rum.

Have you ever had dinner at Bern’s Steak House in Tampa? If not, you are dancing backwards!  Enjoyed a great meal with friends Thursday and as always it was impressive.  It’s so refreshing to have professional waitstaff. Combine that with 1st class food and the BEST wine list in the USA and it’s a night to remember.  I’ll tell you about this epic dinning experience and a little history of this storied restaurant.  But then we will focus on the wine program at Bern’s with Sommelier Rachel Healy.

Owner Rick Hill

Then we’ll talk to Rick Hill the colorful owner of Key Largo Fisheries.  When Rick walked up to talk to me he was wearing a hat with “GRUMPY” written on the front and said ‘Hi I’m Rick Hill, I’ve never worked and never will.”  I can assure you he works hard and has evolved this Key Largo operation in to one of the BEST fresh seafood stores and restaurants.  More than just retail, they provide fresh wholesale seasonal seafood to many restaurants and seafood shops.
While we have shopped there for many years, it’s only been in the last several years that they have expanded and now offer a very casual outdoor eating area and some fine seafood choices. Key Largo Fisheries Backyard is adjacent to the seafood shop and right next to the dock where the boats unload.  If your plans don’t take you to the Florida Keys soon, no worries.  You can order on line and Key Largo Fisheries will ship directly to  your door step.  Remember it’s seasonal so check the web site often.  Stone crab season just opened, and if you haven’t had fresh claws lately you don’t know what you’re missing.  www.keylargofisheries.com
