This Saturday we begin with some fine Traditional & Modern Cocktails perfect for the HOT…HOT…HOT days of summer. My guests are Vianney Rodriguez and Yvette Marques-Sharpnack with their new book Latin Twist
Yvette and Vianney are known for their Mexican and Latin-fusion recipes made with easy-to-find ingredients. Their cocktails–featuring fresh-squeezed juices and homemade mixers–have been so popular that they decided to devote a whole book to them! Latin Twist is the first book to celebrate the signature cocktails of 18 Latin American countries and Spain in one volume. It delves into the history of each country’s liquors, followed by traditional cocktails and original recipes. Try a luscious Passion Fruit Caipirinha from Brazil, Chile’s fruity Borgoña, or Argentina’s national drink, the deceptively simple Fernet con Cola.
Whether you’re having a backyard fiesta or just entertaining a few friends, there is a drink in this book for every ocassion. Clear instructions and gorgeous color photos make it easy to mix up a glass or pitcher of crowd-pleasing cocktails.
Latin Twist features:
- 97 traditional and original cocktail recipes from 20 countries
- Brief historical facts of the alcohols used in each country
- Latin American illustrated map of cocktails
- Gorgeous color photography throughout

In the second half I’ll be taking with Leslie Mead Renaud, Director of Winemaking at Roth Estate Vineyards in Sonoma. Well tell you all about the winery, vineyards and some of the products available here in Kansas. We’ll finish with a discussion of my wine of the week, a fine example of Alexander Valley Cabernet.
Good Life Guy’s Wine of the Week:
2011 Roth Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley
This vintage of the Roth Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was grown entirely on Alexander Valley vineyards consisting of soils containing volcanic ash. This wine is a true reflection of the passion for the noble Cabernet grape. Beautiful aromas of nutmeg, sweet oak and red cherries carry through to the palate. This bright cabernet sauvignon has soft, balanced tannins that are layered with notes of black currant, red berries, and sweet vanilla on the finish.
