I’m here not only to see my brother but for Sierra Scott’s destination birthday bash on the beach and the week has been full of food, wine and fun.  We’ll tell you all about some of that and also share some great events coming up in the flat lands.

The Wine Opener is a national wine tasting series to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Locally, The Wichita Wine Opener—A Toast to Wichita’s Finest.   a relaxed, yet lively, evening for 400-450 expected guests. From wine novices to advanced wine enthusiasts, The Wine Opener—A Toast to Wichita’s Finest is a casual and fun evening for all experience levels! SIP GREAT WINES poured by international and domestic wineries. SAVOR GREAT CUISINE presented at festive tasting stations, where the area’s hottest chefs prepare their specialties just for you.  And don’t forget to “Vote” for your favorite Candidate vying for the title of Wichita’s Finest. Every dollar raised equals one vote. Who ever has the most votes at the end of the evening will by crowned “Wichita’s Finest”. BOcte sure to stop by their auction tables to bid high and bid often.

2014 Spring Valley”Frederick” Bordeaux Blend from Walla Walla WA
This vintage of  Frederick checks in as a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec. It has classic notes of cedar spice, lead pencil shaving and currants as well as medium to full-bodied, richness, solid overall balance and building tannin.  Refined and impeccably structured, with floral black cherry and dusty dried spice aromas, and complex plum, olive and mocha flavors that glide toward polished tannins.  Drink now through 2023. *Top 100 Wines of 2017″ 94 points Wine Spectator
