About Taken Wine Company
Taken Wine Company was founded in 2009 when next generation winemakers, Carlo Trinchero and Josh Phelps realized their mutual dream to start their own wine label. Josh and Carlo grew up together in the winegrowing town of St. Helena, in the Napa Valley—wine is in their DNA. The wines are crafted to appeal to the millennial generation in terms of both what’s inside and outside the bottle. The names (Taken, Complicated, and Available) all tie into social media and are relevant to their generation.

Good Life Guy’s Wine of the Week:
2012 Taken, Napa Valley Red Wine
This is a smooth and opulent Napa Valley wine that bursts from the glass with blackberries, chocolate, plum, cassis and savory flavors as well. The wine is dense and structured and the finish lingers with notes of espresso and toasty oak. The softness of the Merlot adds a complexity and roundness to the mid-palate making for a great balance. The wine spent 16 months in 50% new French oak barrels. This classic Cabernet blend is ready to drink right now and should continue to evolve for 8 – 10 years.  Learn more here!

93 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate –  It does not appear that this Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend is named after the Liam Neeson movies of the same name. However, there is no question I was ‘taken’ by this 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Taken. It exhibits a dense purple color as well as glorious aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, licorice, incense, and a subtle hint of oak. With spectacular opulence, a voluptuous texture and phenomenal concentration as well as purity, but no over-ripeness or heaviness, this beauty should drink well for 10-15 years. This cuvée is a joint project of Carlo Trinchero (from the family of White Zinfandel fame) and Josh Phelps (I’m not sure if he’s related to the Joseph Phelps Winery), who have put together a killer red. As a wine lover, one hopes this is only the first of many more to come. (RP) (10/ 2014)
